Life in the 65th

The vast majority of U.S. servicemen had no plans to be professional soldiers, but rather planned simply to return to school or job when the war ended. Passing time away from home, parents, wives, or girlfriends was undoubtedly made easier by the close relationships most formed with those they served with.

Through the navigation bar to the left, this page provides links to the collection of materials, including candid snapshots, letters home, journals, provided by surviving members of the 65th or the families of members no longer alive.  By clicking on the links to the left, the visitor may browse these materials directly.  Much of the material is also accessible through other portions of the site (e.g., History or Equipment and Tactics), where the text provides context for the materials listed, which can then be accessed by a direct link.
